Run, Jump, Throw Day

We had a fantastic day at our Run, Jump, Throw day last week. Thank you for all the effort that you put into the day!

The World of Maths Roadshow

Our Year 2's in Room 20 and 21 had a great time at the Math's Roadshow today. They got to do a range of hands on, fun maths activities. They worked really hard as a team and showed great perseverance with some tricky maths problems. Here are some photos of the activities they go to do.

Year 2 A & P Show Trip

We had an amazing day out at the show on Wednesday.

A huge thank you to all the parents who came to help. The day would not have been possible without you.

Have a look at all our photos and videos below!

Lockdown practise

Last week we did lots of learning about how to keep safe if there is a problem outside like a swarm of bees.

We practised doing a lockdown in the classroom. We had to lie down flat on our tummies and wait until Mrs Trotter, Mrs Hall or Mrs Martin came to let us out. The children did really well laying still and being quiet.

Labour Weekend

Thank you to all the parents and children who worked really hard to share what they did over the long weekend. The children loved sharing their slide and talking about what they did with other children in the class.

Term 4 reading treat

This term as our treat for all children who had finished their whole holiday reading log in Rm 20, 21 and 22, we got out a heap of exciting PE gear for the children to have free time with.

Well done everyone for working so hard in the holidays on your reading!!

Shake Out!

Last week we joined 1.3million other people who participated in the Shake out. When children were told to stop, drop and cover. They did really well to turtle as fast as possible. When our music cue started we then headed outside to line up and finish practising our emergency procedure.

Well done Room 21 for staying so calm and being so fast at your turtle!

The Amazing Mural

Mr Rush has been busy over the holidays, hanging all the amazing murals that we completed last term.

We were so excited to find ours on the wall outside Mrs Trotter's office.

Oaklands Jump Off!!

Yesterday we were lucky enough to get out and do our Jump off!! Here are some photos of us skipping!

Plasticine Boats

Does plasticine float?

No, it doesn't
and
Yes, it does!

We talked about density again.

Can you see what we did to the balls of plasticine we had, to make them float?

Our weekend adventures

It was wonderful to see all the exciting things that the children got up to over the weekend. It was great to hear the children sharing their stories with other children and discussing the slideshow with each other.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to do this for us.
We really appreciate it.

Oaklands New Band!!

Today at assembly we got a special performance from some of our talented teachers. Have a listen below!

Dancing Raisins & Magic Eggs

Try these fun experiments at home.

A Magic Egg
Fresh eggs will sink if dropped into water, but this egg is suspended in the middle of this glass - how is that possible?

The magic word is density.

You need:
A tall glass
Water
6 tablespoons of salt.
  • Mix the salt with half a glass of water - give it 10 min to dissolve.
  • Carefully pour fresh water into the glass - holding the glass on an angle helps to stop the fresh and salt waters mixing.
  • Gently drop the egg into the glass.

Shape Collages

This week we have created collages using different shapes. We have had a great time learning all about shapes.

Floating and Sinking

We are learning about floating and sinking.

We watched this video to get our brains thinking.

We tried to think of all....
  • the things that float
  • the things that sink
We then did an investigation to find out if certain items would float or sink.
First we made a prediction for each item - Float or Sink?
Then we observed what happened when the item was dropped in the water.

What do you think?
  • A feather?
  • A small wooden block?
  • A stone?
  • A light bulb?
  • A walnut shell?
  • A metal clip

Our geometry learning

Over the last 2 weeks we have been learning all about shapes. Instead of our normal number Must do's, we have had to do 3 geometry activities everyday. Below are some photos of us doing some of our independent activities and some of the learning activities with the teacher.

Room 21's Weekend Adventures

Thank you to all the families who added photos to our slideshows. The children really enjoyed seeing these this morning and talking about their weekends.

Skipping Madness!

Wow, our children love skipping!

Every morning we go outside for fitness and at the moment we are doing skipping as we prepare for our Jump Rope day.

The excited scrabble for the skipping ropes leads onto children everywhere, trying out new skills, sharing ideas, teaching each other and having a marvellous time.
